comment

Nothing important to say about my primary school. In the secondary school I got confronted with computers very early, since we already had internet access in the 5th grade in 1998.

I really enjoyed learning HTML, Pascal, Java, Prolog, UML, and some theoretical parts like context-free grammar, graph theory and state machines. During my time at high school I also did one internship at a it-service company and one at a electronic shop / workshop.

After school I had been working as freelancer in web development. My interest in computer science grew, so after a short time it was clear, I was going to give studies in computer science a try. I'm doing this until now and I am very happy and confident with my choice.

it skills

Due to my work as a web developer I got used to many things releated to the web.
  • HTML, CSS
  • Javascript, JQuery
  • PHP, Python, (Ruby, but it has been a while), Java
  • many many different products like Tyoplight, Drupal, Joomla, VBulletin, PHPbb, Plone,...
  • some frameworks like Pylons (Python), Zend Framework (PHP), Ruby on Rails (Ruby), Grails (Java)
  • SQL (so far MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite)
  • NOSQL (so far Cassandra)
  • memcached, ssi (for high traffic sites)
  • of course a lot of linux and server administration knowledge

languages

My native language is German. At school I learned English for 9 years and French for 4 years. Since school I've been using English much oftener than French. This is mainly caused by the internet and computer science literature but also by films, books and manuals. My french is a bit rusty these days - but I'm confident it would get better with a little more practice.
